Engine Pump

We stock a range of spare parts for small air cooled diesel engine and pumps. KM177, KM186
An engine-driven pump combines a petrol or diesel engine with a pump, making it suitable for water transfer, irrigation, firefighting, drainage and construction work where mains electricity is unavailable. Different designs handle clean water, dirty water, chemicals, sludge or high-pressure applications. Select the pump by fluid type, flow, total head and solids capacity rather than engine size alone.
Transfer pumps prioritise high flow for moving relatively clean water. High-pressure pumps provide greater discharge pressure for firefighting, sprinklers or long pipe runs. Trash pumps have larger internal passages for water containing debris or solids. Using the wrong pump type can cause blockages, poor performance or damage, so match the impeller and solids rating to the application.
Common causes include an empty pump casing, air leaks in the suction hose, excessive suction lift, a blocked strainer, a damaged seal or a foot valve that is not holding water. Fill the casing as instructed, keep the suction line short and airtight and ensure the hose cannot collapse under vacuum. Never continue running an unprimed pump.
Maximum flow is measured at little discharge head, while maximum head occurs at very low flow. Actual performance depends on vertical lift, hose length, diameter, valves, fittings and suction conditions. Use the pump curve to estimate delivery at your operating point and allow for friction losses, particularly through long or narrow hose.
Check engine oil, air filter, fuel system, pump seals, hoses, clamps, strainer and mounting hardware before use. Keep the cooling area clean, avoid dry running and flush dirty or corrosive water after operation. Drain or protect the pump from freezing, service the engine to schedule and investigate leakage, vibration or declining output promptly.
