Description
These kits are specially designed to pump thick and heavy solutions such as molasses and honey. Offered with either a petrol engine drive or electric motor drive, they come as a complete mounted unit.
Pump application:
The pumps are positive displacement, low inertia pumps which are excellent at pumping fluids at low to medium pressures. These pumps can be used to pump a large range of other non abrasive fluids including oils. Very useful for pressure boosting, liquid transfer, factory process pumping and lubrication duties.
When pumping molasses these gear pumps should be run at ~200rpm. These kits have been specially designed to ensure the engine or electric drive produces maximum horse power whilst keeping the pump at the 200rpm target. Pumping molasses consumes great power and as such these kits have been specially designed with much larger horse power engines and motors compared to the equivalent oil transfer pump kits.
These gear pumps can run in either direction by changing the delivery and suction pipes to opposite sides of the pump. If closed heads are to be encountered than a pressure relief or bypass valve must be installed and set to the required pressure.
Always prime these pumps with the fluid to be pumped and start with a fully open discharge before throttling to pressure requirements. When pumping molasses, it is strongly recommended that the inlet and discharge pipework be sized to a minimum of 3 times the diameter of the inlet and outlet ports of the pump.
These pump kits are configured with a special Teflon gland packing which is suited to working with molasses. When working with molasses it is recommended the pump be rinsed out with hot water after use to prevent the pump from seizing up the next time it is used.
Caution: Pumps will self lubricate using the pumped fluid however avoid running the pump dry as this will create rapid wear.

Performance:
These are positive displacement pumps. The flow is essentially directly proportional to the RPM. The flow rates in the table above are based on the maximum 200rpm pump speed for molasses. Reducing the engine RPM will reduce the flow rate.
- Fluids must be clean and free from suspended abrasive particles
- Maximum fluid temperature: +60ºC
- Maximum ambient temperature: +60ºC
Warranty
These kits have a minimum 1 yr warranty. Honda Engines come with a 3yr Honda engine warranty provided via Honda Australia.
