Transfer / Semi-Trash / Full Trash explained:
A common question is what's the difference between a transfer vs semi-trash vs full trash pump. In short, the difference is primary to do with the pump impeller and casing and their robustness and ability to deal with solids. Full trash pumps use a harder material for the casing and impeller construction, they also are designed to flow larger particles without blocking. The trade off is performance, efficiency and cost. Full trash pumps will often be coupled to higher HP engines to offer more torque for moving dense dirty waters. Trash pumps are ideally suited to the construction industry where a different pit with unknown contents can be pumped out each week.
Semi- trash is ideal for a range of applications and they span the gap between clean water transfer and full trash. With upgraded casing and impeller they will still perform and last well pumping dirty waters with a slightly small suction screen to the full trash alternative.
Clean water transfer pumps are great for moving water between dams where high levels of large solids are not anticipated. The suction strainers in these pump will start to block with particles over ~6mm which is still very respectable and acceptable for most common applications. The pumps feature a cast iron impeller and inner casing ensuring they are still extremely robust.
Diesel vs Petrol Engine?
Both petrol and diesel engine pumps are popular and each can be ideally suited to varying user requirements. Diesel engines are often a favourite due to the the higher efficiency and in-turn lower fuel consumption costs. Additionally diesel engines require very little maintenance and are arguably more reliable which can be an advantage in remote locations. The YANMAR diesel engines offered in these pump sets will rev to 3600 rpm matching the pump performance of the petrol engine alternative. Additionally they have been coupled to larger fuel tanks offering extended run times. YANMAR engines have been around since 1959 and it's not uncommon to hear of engines dating back many many years still performing well.
Option for Mine Specification Upgrade
Scintex can upgrade pump sets to meet Australian mine site requirements. This has been performed successfully for clients in the past and involves changes to the wiring with dual pole, lockable, battery isolation, inclusion of a mounted fire extinguisher and compliance to AS4024 guarding requirements. A simple tick box upgrade has been incorporated into the ordering and selection at the top of the page for this option.
