Description

The Paddock Dirty Water Submersible Pump range is designed for demanding drainage and dewatering applications where high flow rates and reliable solids handling are required. With 240V single-phase power and flow rates up to 870 L/min, these pumps are ideal for construction sites, farms, workshops, pits, flood water removal and general property drainage.

Heavy duty construction, open impeller designs and silicon carbide mechanical seals make these pumps well suited to dirty water containing suspended solids and debris. Multiple models are available to suit different combinations of flow, pressure and discharge size.

Paddock High Flow Dirty Water Submersible Pumps

  • High flow rates from 270 L/min up to 870 L/min
  • 240V single-phase operation
  • Open impeller design for dirty water and suspended solids
  • Handles solids up to 10mm or 20mm depending on model
  • Discharge sizes from 2" to 4"
  • Silicon carbide mechanical shaft seal
  • Stainless steel motor casing and shaft
  • Thermal motor protection
  • Continuous duty operation when correctly submerged
  • Float switch supplied on selected models
  • 5m power lead with standard plug
  • 12 month warranty

High Flow Pumps for Fast Dewatering

When large volumes of dirty water need to be moved quickly, pump flow rate becomes critical. The Paddock range includes models capable of pumping from 270 L/min through to 870 L/min, making them suitable for everything from general drainage through to large-scale dewatering applications.

Popular applications include construction and building sites, drainage pits, flood water removal, farms, irrigation, grey water handling, fisheries and general water transfer.

Designed for Dirty Water & Solids

Unlike clean-water pumps, these submersible pumps use an open impeller design which provides greater clearance for suspended solids and debris. Depending on the selected model, the pumps can handle solids up to 10mm or 20mm in diameter.

This makes them suitable for dirty water applications where leaves, sediment, light mud and other suspended material may be present.

Some models are also suitable for sewage applications within the stated solids-handling limits. Always select the pump according to the fluid, solids content, required flow and discharge head.

Automatic Float Switch Operation

The SPSP150HF, SPSP1500F and SPSP2200F models are supplied with a float switch for automatic water level control.

As the water level rises, the float moves upwards and activates the pump. When the water level falls, the float lowers and switches the pump off. The effective switching range can be adjusted by changing the free length of float cable retained by the integrated cable clamp.

Important: Ensure the installation provides enough clearance for the float switch to move freely. A restricted or jammed float may prevent the pump from switching off as the water level falls.

The SPSP2200HFN does not include a float switch and therefore requires appropriate external control or operator supervision to prevent dry running.

Heavy Duty Motor & Mechanical Seal

These pumps feature stainless steel motor casings and shafts together with silicon carbide mechanical shaft seals and secondary oil seals. An oil separation chamber provides additional protection between the pumped liquid and electric motor.

The motors use copper windings and incorporate thermal protection to help protect against overheating. The wet end can also be separated from the motor for easier inspection and servicing.

Correct Submersible Pump Operation

Submersible pumps rely on the surrounding liquid to help dissipate heat generated by the motor. They should therefore remain adequately submerged during operation and should not be intentionally operated dry for extended periods.

Models supplied with a float switch should be installed so the float switches the pump off while sufficient water remains around the motor for cooling.

Thermal protection is an emergency protective feature and should not be used as the normal method of controlling water level or stopping the pump. Repeated overheating and thermal shutdown can significantly reduce motor life.

Choosing the Right Model

The four models provide different combinations of flow rate, discharge pressure and outlet size:

  • SPSP150HF: Higher pressure with 270 L/min flow, 22m maximum head and 2" outlet.
  • SPSP1500F: Higher flow 1500W option delivering up to 466 L/min through a 2" outlet.
  • SPSP2200F: Heavy duty 2200W model delivering up to 700 L/min through a 3" outlet.
  • SPSP2200HFN: Maximum flow option delivering up to 870 L/min through a large 4" outlet. Supplied without float switch.

Salt Water Use

*The pumps can operate with sea water; however, prolonged exposure to salt water can cause corrosion. They are not recommended for permanent installation in corrosive salt water environments. Corrosion resulting from salt water exposure is not covered by warranty.

Dry Running & Thermal Protection

Important: Although the motors incorporate thermal cut-out protection, this is intended as a protective measure rather than a normal operating control. Do not deliberately allow the pump to repeatedly run dry until the thermal protection activates.

Repeated dry running and overheating can significantly reduce pump life and resulting damage is not covered under warranty. Where supplied, use the float switch to maintain an appropriate minimum water level around the pump.

Pump installation report

The pump arrived quickly and was installed in an Everhard 97980 stormwater pit with a capacity of about 800 litres. It was installed with a non-return valve to stop water running back into the pit each time the pump turned off. The only tricky bit was tethering the float valve so that the pump would turn on reliably once the pit contained about 200 litres. The float kept fouling the sides of the pit. However it is running reliably now and I am very pleased with it.
