Typical Pump Applications

These gear pumps are suited to low and medium pressure transfer of compatible clean, non-abrasive liquids. Typical applications include:

  • Tallows
  • Transformer oils
  • Heating oils
  • Printing inks
  • Bitumen emulsions
  • Jelly products
  • Compatible liquid fertilisers
  • Diesel
  • Kerosene
  • Lubricating liquids
  • Oil transfer
  • Pressure boosting
  • Factory process pumping
  • Lubrication systems

Fluid compatibility should always be confirmed for the particular liquid, viscosity and operating conditions.

Electrical supply: 240V models use single-phase motors. 415V models use three-phase motors.

Important: Motors are supplied without a plug or power lead fitted. Electrical connection must be completed appropriately for the installation.

Performance

Published pump performance curves are based on a liquid with a kinematic viscosity of 1mm²/s and density of 1000kg/m³ at 20°C. Actual pump performance will vary with liquid viscosity, density, pump speed, pipework and operating conditions.

  • Maximum flow across the range: Up to 27m³/h
  • Maximum head: Up to 30m
  • Maximum fluid temperature: 60°C
  • Maximum ambient temperature: 60°C
  • Typical rotational speed: Approximately 400rpm, depending on model
  • Recommended maximum pump speed: 600rpm
  • Fluids must be clean and free from suspended abrasive particles

High-Viscosity Liquids & Molasses

Pump speed should be selected to suit the viscosity and characteristics of the liquid being transferred. For high-viscosity applications such as molasses, the recommended pump speed is approximately 200rpm.

Dedicated molasses pump configurations are available for these applications.

Pump Construction & Operation

The positive displacement gear pump design is suitable for transferring a wide variety of compatible liquids. Blind plain bearings are self-lubricated by the pumped fluid, while the stuffing box incorporates gland packing with grease lubrication.

The pumps can operate in either direction, allowing the direction of fluid transfer to be reversed where the installation and drive arrangement permit.

Installation & Operation

Securely mount the complete pump and motor assembly before operation. Ensure the suction and discharge pipework is correctly sized and installed for the intended flow rate and liquid viscosity.

Before starting, prime the pump with the liquid being transferred and begin operation with the discharge fully open before adjusting the system to the required operating conditions.

If the installation can operate against a closed discharge, an appropriately selected pressure relief or bypass valve must be installed to protect the pump and system from excessive pressure.

Where a belt drive is used, ensure the pulleys and belts are correctly aligned and tensioned.

Do not run the pump dry. The pump relies on the transferred liquid for lubrication, and dry operation can cause rapid wear or damage.

Important Selection Information

Correct pump selection depends on the liquid being transferred, viscosity, required flow rate, discharge pressure, pipework and operating temperature. Performance can vary significantly when pumping liquids with properties different from those used for the published performance curves.

For high-viscosity or specialised fluids, contact Scintex to confirm the most suitable pump, motor and operating speed for the application.

Molasses Pump

Good units and work well with molasses. A bit of delay on making it up but worth it. Advice was clear and the staff pleasant.
