Molasses Gear Pump Kits – Petrol & Electric Drive
Description
Heavy-duty molasses gear pump kits designed for transferring thick, high-viscosity fluids such as molasses and honey. Available with Honda petrol engine or electric motor drive options, these positive displacement pumps are supplied as complete mounted units.
The pumps are configured specifically for high-viscosity applications, with appropriately sized drive systems and PTFE gland packing suited to molasses service.
Molasses Gear Pump Kits
These positive displacement gear pumps are designed for transferring clean, non-abrasive, high-viscosity fluids at low to medium pressures. In addition to molasses and honey, they may also be suitable for compatible oils and other clean, non-abrasive fluids.
The complete kits are available with either Honda petrol engine drive or 240V / 415V electric motor drive, depending on the model selected.
Key Features
- Designed specifically for pumping molasses and other compatible high-viscosity fluids
- Positive displacement gear pump design
- Honda petrol and electric drive options
- Nominal flow rates from 30 to 113L/min
- 30m stated discharge head
- PTFE gland packing suited to molasses service
- Complete mounted pump and drive assembly
- Suitable for clean, non-abrasive fluids
- Minimum 12 month pump kit warranty
Designed for Molasses Pumping
Molasses places substantially greater load on a pump and drive system than lower-viscosity fluids such as diesel or light oils. These kits use larger engines and motors than comparable oil-transfer pump systems to provide the power required for high-viscosity operation.
For molasses service, the pumps are configured to operate at approximately 200rpm. This lower pump speed assists with transferring the thick fluid while keeping the drive system appropriately loaded.
Typical Applications
- Molasses transfer
- Honey transfer
- Compatible oil transfer
- Factory and process fluid transfer
- Lubrication applications
- Suitable pressure-boosting applications
- Other clean, non-abrasive compatible fluids
Honda Petrol Engine Models
The petrol-driven models provide a portable pumping solution where mains electricity is unavailable or inconvenient. Both use Honda 4-stroke petrol engines with recoil starting.
| Model | Inlet / Outlet | Drive | Head | Power | Pump Speed | Nominal Flow |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| KC25H5.5M | 25mm | Honda petrol | 30m | 5.5HP | 200rpm | 30L/min |
| KC35H9M | 35mm | Honda petrol | 30m | 9HP | 200rpm | 50L/min |
Alternative drive configurations, including diesel engine solutions, may be available by special request.
Electric Motor Models
Electric-drive options are available for fixed installations, with both 240V single-phase and 415V three-phase configurations depending on the model.
| Model | Inlet / Outlet | Supply | Head | Power | Pump Speed | Nominal Flow |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| KC25E3-1M | 25mm | 240V / Single Phase | 30m | 2.2kW | 200rpm | 30L/min |
| KC25E3-3M | 25mm | 415V / Three Phase | 30m | 2.2kW | 200rpm | 30L/min |
| KC35E10-3M | 35mm | 415V / Three Phase | 30m | 7.5kW | 200rpm | 50L/min |
| KC50E10-3M | 50mm | 415V / Three Phase | 30m | 7.5kW | 200rpm | 113L/min |
Positive Displacement Pump Performance
These are positive displacement gear pumps, so delivered flow is closely related to pump speed. The nominal flow figures above are based on the specified operating speed for molasses service.
Actual performance will vary with fluid viscosity, temperature, suction conditions, pipework, discharge pressure and other installation factors.
- Fluids must be clean and free from suspended abrasive particles
- Maximum fluid temperature: 60°C
- Maximum ambient temperature: 60°C

Installation & Pipework
Always prime the pump with the fluid being transferred before starting. Begin operation with the discharge fully open before introducing any required downstream restriction.
When pumping molasses, appropriately sized suction and discharge pipework is particularly important because excessive restriction can significantly increase the load on the pump and drive system.
The supplied recommendation is to use inlet and discharge pipework with a diameter of at least three times the corresponding pump port diameter when transferring molasses.
Direction of Flow
The gear pump can operate in either rotational direction when correctly configured. Reversing the direction requires the suction and discharge connections to be arranged accordingly.
Always confirm the drive rotation, suction connection and discharge connection before operating the pump.
Pressure Relief / Bypass Protection
Positive displacement pumps must not be operated against a closed discharge.
If a closed discharge or blocked flow condition can occur, a correctly selected and adjusted pressure relief or bypass valve must be incorporated into the system to protect the pump, pipework and associated equipment from excessive pressure.
Molasses Pump Maintenance
The pumps are configured with PTFE gland packing suited to molasses service.
After pumping molasses, thoroughly flushing the pump with suitable hot water is recommended to remove residual product before it cools and thickens. This helps reduce the risk of the pump becoming difficult to turn or seized before its next use.
Do not run the gear pump dry. The pumped fluid provides lubrication to the pump internals, and dry running can cause rapid wear or damage.
Warranty
The pump kits are supplied with a minimum 12 month warranty.
Honda-powered models are supplied with a stated 3-year Honda engine warranty provided through Honda Australia, subject to Honda's applicable warranty terms and conditions.
